ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - A Pakistani passenger jet carrying 127 people crashed in a residential neighborhood on Friday as it was trying to land at an airport near the capital, Islamabad, during a rainstorm, officials said.
NBC News' Fakhur Rehman at the scene of the crash said he saw the aircraft's charred wreckage and "many bodies" scattered on the ground.
Defense Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhar told The Associated Press that rescue teams were at the scene.
State television reported that all hospitals in Islamabad and the nearby city of Rawalpindi were on high alert after the crash.
