Question 1: (5 Marks)
Assume that you are working as an assistant network administrator in a company and assisting your network administrator in creating and maintaining networks for the company. You are assigned a task to analyze three different types of network media i.e. twisted pair cable, coaxial cable and fiber optic cable. You are required to fill the following table on the basis of your analysis.
Cables
|
Attenuation (Less /High)
|
Bandwidth (Hz)
|
Distance (Limited / Long / Very Long )
|
Twisted pair
| |||
Coaxial cable
| |||
Fiber optic

Question 2: (5 Marks)
According to the propagation of signals there are two types of signals i.e. Omni directional waves/signals and unidirectional waves/signals. In your opinion what is the difference between unidirectional and Omni directional waves and write at least two examples of unidirectional and Omni directional.
Solution :
Omni directional mics pick up sound from all around them while uni-directional pick up sound from a certain point, right in front of them. omni direction here "omni" this word itself says that "number of" the word omnidirections meant that "different directions".unidirectional means waves having single direction.u may get doubt which one is omni and which one is uni so have a look here here is the answer for unidirection i think infrared rays may be one of the example u may why it should be the unidirection based on which we can say that it is a unidirection ........ i can say infrared rays are unidirection based on ............u know we r using remotes for changing channels in tv .think once when we press a button on the remote which is placed in the correct direction i.e facing the remote to tv itself just reverse the direction such that remote is facing towards u then check once by clicking a button that the channel will vary or not yes obsolutely correct, it does not vary because in this scenario we use infrared rays which have only one direction so when it is facing towards u the channel cant be changed.the only readon is it cant be omni directional one where is the electro magnetic waves r omni so even in which direction though u keep the mobile u can operate that got it
Question 3: (5 Marks)
Consider the following network in which a signal travels from point A to point G. At point A, the signal power is 100 W and at point G, the power is 80 W. You are required to calculate the decibel (dB) and identify whether the signal received at point G is attenuated or amplified?

Solution
Given data;
pt. A=P1=100W
at pt. G=P2=80W
dB=?
dB = 10 log10 (P2/P1)
Substituting the values of P1 and P2 we get;
dB =10Log10 (80W/100W)
=10*Log(0.
=10*(-0.09691) (Since: Log 0.8= -0.09691)
dB = -0.9691
Since we know that;
Negative dB means attenuation
Positive dB means amplification
And dB calculated at pt. G is negative i-e -0.9691
Hence Signal received at pt. G is Attenuated.
pt. A=P1=100W
at pt. G=P2=80W
dB=?
dB = 10 log10 (P2/P1)
Substituting the values of P1 and P2 we get;
dB =10Log10 (80W/100W)
=10*Log(0.
=10*(-0.09691) (Since: Log 0.8= -0.09691)
dB = -0.9691
Since we know that;
Negative dB means attenuation
Positive dB means amplification
And dB calculated at pt. G is negative i-e -0.9691
Hence Signal received at pt. G is Attenuated.
