Mary Taves Named Overland Park Officer-in-Charge National Labor Relations Board General Counsel Richard F. Griffin Jr. has announced the appointment of Mary G. Taves as Officer-in-Charge of the NLRB’s Subregional office in Overland Park, Kansas (Subregion 17). In her new position, Ms. Taves will assist Daniel Hubbel, Director of the NLRB’s Region 14 in St. Louis, in enforcing the National Labor Relations Act in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri and several counties in Iowa and Illinois.  Ms. Taves is a Wichita, Kansas native, graduating in 1983 from Wichita State University with a degree in Political Science. Ms. Taves then attended law school at the University of Kansas. As a career NLRB employee, Ms. Taves began work with the NLRB in 1986 as a staff attorney to Board Member Mary Cracraft at the Board’s Headquarters in Washington D.C.. Ms. Taves returned to her roots in 1988, when she transferred to then Region 17, in Overland Park, Kansas, as a Field Attorney. Before her recent appointment as Officer-in-Charge, Ms. Taves served as both a Supervisory Attorney and the Deputy Regional Attorney in Subregion 17. The NLRB is an independent federal agency tasked with enforcing the National Labor Relations Act, which guarantees the right of most private sector employees to organize, to engage in group efforts to improve their wages and working conditions, to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative, to engage in collective bargaining and to refrain from any of these activities. It acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions. ### Questions?
