The Smithsonian's Ocean Portal Can Help Your Students "Find Their Blue"
The Smithsonian’s “Ocean Portal” is a great resource for anyone interested in studying the ocean. It offers features, news items and interesting blogs on a variety of topics. The “Ocean Life and Ecosystems” section covers the diversity of marine life and nearly every kind of habitat. The “Planet Ocean” section discusses the ocean in motion (waves, currents, and tides) and geological features. The “Ocean Through Time” section discusses the changing of the ocean as evolution continues and humans leave their mark. For those concerned about saving our oceans, the “Conservation” section provides information about the threats to the ocean and its organisms and shares conservation success stories where man has made a difference. There is also a special section just for teachers that includes lesson plans and other resources.
