Taapsee Pannu says she was asked to stay away from strong female roles

One of Bollywood’s most vocal stars, Taapsee Pannu is calling out sexism once again after she was told to let go of powerful female roles.

The diva in an interview with Zoom revealed how initially she was asked to stay away from strong female avatars and how she should let men take the ‘centre stage’.

“I have been advised by people in this industry that you should let men take the centre stage now. You are only doing women-centric films,” she said.

“When I tell them that I also did Mission Mangal, they say but that’s again a strong female character. Toh kya karu? Kuch bhi flimsy sa role kar lun? (Then what should I do? Should I do flimsy roles?),” she added.

She was then asked about her role in Judwaa 2, alongside Varun Dhawan, which can be considered as something ‘flimsy.’

Responding to that, Taapsee said: “Yes, that I did only to prove that I can also do this. Don’t put me in a box. But today, I am in a position that when I do a commercial film, the character will have something for sure. That I can command today.”

Deepika Padukone on working with Ranveer Singh in ‘83’: ‘It is our lightest film yet’

Bollywood’s power couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have made waves on screen together more than once and it appears the diva is looking forward to more of such opportunities but with stories less intense.

The couple in Bajirao Mastani, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Finding Fanny and Padmaavat had been embroiled in intense story-lines that lead to either of the two facing tragic ends. However, their upcoming film 83 does bring some freshness into the work they share together.

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror about the Kabir Khan-directorial that narrates India’s journey to the 1983 World Cup victory, the 33-year-old Tamasha actor states: “It is our lightest film together yet. Onset, you are not husband and wife or girlfriend and boyfriend, you are actors. This film was so different."

"It will be good to be just a boy and a girl in a young, fresh film,” she added.

She went on to share an intriguing story from the story of the sets of Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela: “After watching the Chhapaak trailer, he recalled the time when we were promoting Goliyon Ki Raasleela… Ram Leela in Jaipur and there was a person, dressed exactly like Shah Rukh Khan, who jumped out of the crowd at me. I had forgotten all about it, but he remembered."

She further spoke about the strong bond that she shares with her husband Ranveer Singh after they got married, saying: “I’d had a long day, but I didn’t feel anxious about whether he would be upset about me coming home late or because I hadn’t called. I have been in relationships where I didn’t have that. When you don’t have to worry about such things, it allows you to focus on work."

Bollywood newbie Sara Ali Khan is definitely not a newbie anymore as only in her first year in the industry, the actor has not just bagged massive back-to-back projects but has also reached new levels of stardom.

The 24-year-old Kedarnath actor turned to Instagram to clock in one year since her blockbuster hit film Simmba was released in theaters and proved her acting prowess while also opening several doors for her in B-Town.

Sharing a video from the film that marks one year since the release of the Rohit Shetty-directorial, Sara penned an emotional caption looking back at her second film and expressing gratitude to the makers of the film as well as the cast members including Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Ajay Devgn.

Kareena Kapoor?s ?Good Newwz? in for some bad news as PIL gets filed against the film

Kareena Kapoor’s ‘Good Newwz’ in for some bad news as PIL gets filed against the film

Kareena Kapoor and Akshay Kumar’s freshly released film Good Newwz had an unpleasant surprise waiting for it upon its release.

The film is now facing some legal trouble as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed against the Raj Mehta-directorial in the Karnataka High Court over the ‘objectionable’ subject of the film.

The Kiara Advani-starrer shows two couples with the same surnames choosing In-Vitro fertilization (IVF) support to have a child but getting the sperms interchanged leading to a confusion in the plot.

The objection against the film’s story line was raised by a non-profit organization in Mysuru called Yes Trust as its president Mir Sameem Raza filed the petition on the lines of the film’s story being misleading against IVF centres which in turn, can affect their businesses.

“The movie is about two childless couples, who come for IVF treatment, and the sperms get exchanged. This is bound to create a lot of confusion and uncertainty about the credibility of IVF treatment itself. As childless couples are already under immense social and psychological pressure, this may further cause emotional disturbance for them,” the petition reads.

“The lead actors of this film are endorsing that this type of mix-up does not happen at Indira IVF Center, which creates doubts in the minds of people about the credibility of other IVF treatment centres across India,” it continues.

“The petitioner has absolutely no reservation for somebody making an effort to increase the credibility of Indira IVF but not at the cost of the others in the field. This is the wrong type of product placement,” it added.

Akshay Kumar had addressed a similar question about the seriousness of the IVF assistance being depicted in a comic film with caution: “We have been very careful, exactly how we were in Toilet (Ek Prem Katha). We have been very careful while dealing with it. Such a thing (exchange of sperm by mistake) has happened in reality. It has happened in several places. I feel it is a very important subject to tell people about, especially for women and families who cannot have children.”

"Since IVF has been discovered, almost eight million babies have been born through IVF across the world. There is a success rate of 92 percent in this,” he added.

Deepika Padukone lauds Shah Rukh Khan over his initiative for acid attack survivors

Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:07 AM PST

Bollywood megastar Deepika Padukone is presently at the top of her game as her upcoming film Chhapaak is making the anticipation of fans soar through the ceilings with its poignant and moving story.

Speaking about her film and the conversation stirred around acid attack survivors, the 33-year-old Padmaavat actor spoke about King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and his initiative with Meer Foundation for rehabilitation of the victims.

“He (Shah Rukh Khan) had already started doing it at an individual level and I think he has been doing it for years, he just never spoke about it,” she told Times of India.

"I think he has been financially supporting survivors at an individual level and I remember him mentioning to us that he would like to do this at a much larger level. And then, I haven’t seen him in a while. It’s almost a coincidence that I started hearing about the Meer foundation almost around the same time when we started filming Chhapaak,” she added.

“Then, it made me feel like — Oh, Wow! Something like this he would talk about has actually taken shape and is actually there in form. It’s nice to see that something that he felt for and something that he believed in is actually followed through, and that they do such incredible work,” she continued.

The Meghna Gulzar-directorial that essays the story of real-life survivor Laxmi Agarwal will hit theaters on January 10, 2020.
